Mesopotamia culture
In Mesopotamia, people believed deeply in a polytheistic religion. Mesopotamians tried to make their gods happy in every way. They would try to please them by growing crops and even settling disputes . Temples were 200 feet long, and eight stories high. You could see the temples from 20 miles away! The temples made were called ziggurats. The ziggurats were made out of mud bricks. The Mesopotamian's believed that the gods lived in these big temples. They built a long staircase down the ziggurats so the gods could come down to the earth. The kings and priests would stand inside the tower to ask for the god's blessing. They were a very religious group that would perform human sacrifices to please their gods. Mesopotamian statues also showed their religious beliefs. Many of the statues were realistic and life like. They showed them worshiping their gods with their eyes gazing upward. They thought the gods were pleased when people shown them love and motivation. Music was very important in Mesopotamia. One instrument that they had was the lyre. Musicians played instruments and sang during temple ceremonies. Gods There were many gods that the Mesopotamians believed in. for example, one god was Ugallu. The Ugallu has the head of a lion and the body of human. He is a demon among the Mesopotamians. His job is to protect people who have a evil demon in them, or if they are sick. The Anuz is a giant bird with a big lion head. It's so big that when it flaps its wings it causes big storms to happen. This god has stolen the tablet of destiny. The tablet is used for the gods to write on and to predict the fate of the universe. Lamassu is a god that has the winged body of a lion or bull, and the head of a human.
